By using advanced control algorithms and virtual and real sensors, we can calculate the exact amount of assistance the heart needs beat-by-beat. This will allow for the development of treatment plans that can exercise and rest the heart to help it heal. This feature provides doctors another tool that will be very valuable when working to help young hearts recover from correctional surgeries.

WINS IOWA STATE BUSINESS SCHOOL PITCH OFF

"The winner of the Ivy College of Business Pitch Competition was Ethan Marti, senior in entrepreneurship and co-founder and CFO for Hurd Health Group.

Marti’s pitch was for a ventricle-assist device, called SymVitae, which aims to help those suffering from heart disease. He, along with others, would like to use their technology to reach the 8,000 people every year on the heart transplant list."

OUR STORY

At 21, my girlfriend, now wife was diagnosed with a heart defect. As an engineering student, I started researching potential treatment plans. My interest eventually inspired me to design a medical device for people suffering from unhealthy hearts. 
I’ve spent over three years working on a completely wireless ventricular assist device that will allow patients to spend less time in hospitals and live more normal lives. I have also designed the device to be affordable, in comparison with all other treatment options available. 
In the process, the Project has been awarded a support grant from the State of Iowa, through which the Project is applying for a National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation grants last year. The project is currently in the Startup Factory accelerator and the NSF I-Core accelorator. 
As a bio-medical engineer, my dream and my objective are to build medical devices that will save not only the lives of my loved ones, but those of yours, too.
